Ram Penetrometers

Ram Penetrometers were adapted to snow and used in avalanche research and forecasting beginning about 60 years ago in Switzerland. Since then, they have become a standard of the industry and are currently used worldwide. We made our first ram in 1984 and have been the lead North American supplier ever since. Our rams are being used from Antarctica to Canada in avalanche forecasting and snow and avalanche research. We make two models of the popular standard ram. The only difference is shaft length. The standard ram has 100 cm long sections; the field ram has 75 cm sections. In all cases each section weights 1 kg (1000 g). The field ram simply has shorter shaft lengths for use in remote areas when transport in a rucksack is likely. Specialty rams (Alta or Powder Rams) are available on request.
