Snow Pit Equipment

We provide Snow Pit Kits organized by general need. Purchasing kits provides some savings over purchase price of individual items. The Pro Snow Kit is used by many operational measurement programs and research groups. It contains everything needed to get the highest accuracy samples for pit analyses of depth, density, snow water equivalence and temperature. The Pro Snow Kit II is preferred by users who want back up equipment, the ability to mreasure thinner layers or to have two groups working at the same time. The backcountry kit is used by forecasters and researchers who are traveling long distances in the field or those on a tight budget. SNOW DENSITY SAMPLERS RIP Cutters were designed to have the highest possible degree of accuracy and precision, while remaining practical. They can be used in field or laboratory situations with excellent, consistent results. The wedge design and separate lid allow sample extraction from the snow pit wall without the tedious digging required with small tubular samplers. The cutter can be used with a top-loading digital scale that allows weighing of the sample in the cutter, or with conventional hanging spring scales. Two RIP Cutter models are available, either separately or in kits designed for different applications. Both models are fabricated from stainless steel. All joints are welded for greater strength and the edges are beveled to avoid over-sampling.
